Wadi Al Helo is a wildlife protected area with mountain slopes and valleys, and is known for Sidr trees or Christ’s thorn trees. It is considered a home for various species of birds, reptiles and rodents, in addition to freshwater fish communities. The most popular trail is an easy walk to the top of a hill, where an old fort offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the UAE mountain range. If you’re up for more trekking, follow the well-worn animal tracks deeper into the wadi. You are very likely to encounter wildlife like the Arabian Oryx, the UAE’s national animal, and find desert flowers blooming along the way.
